Biofeedback for Fat melt-away Program: Biofeedback [Bio (body) feedback (signals)] is a technical term for all of the signals your body is giving you. These are the little things that tell you what’s going on internally.
A biofeedback specialist helps a person manage diet and physical training properly. The person’s body will be well from the inside out. Biofeedback will reflect one’s state of health, and let the specialist know if the client is feeling, moving, training, and sleeping well.
In today’s blog, we’ll talk about how to biofeedback to help with melting away fat and building muscles.
Biofeedback helps people with a better sleep quality
[For a deep dive into sleep, why it’s so essential for building muscle and burning fat, and how to improve sleep, check out this blog.]
Getting great sleep helps adhere to the diet because poor sleep means
→ Higher stress
→ More hunger
→ More cravings
→ Lower willpower
All of this together adds a way harder time adhering to the diet when someone is under-slept. Not to mention physical training and recovery will be affected by poor sleep. And if you’re tired, you’ll generally move less (lower N.E.A.T.), meaning you’ll burn fewer calories and less melting away of fat throughout the day.
Leptin is the hormone that signals your body when it’s time to stop eating. When you don’t get enough sleep, you have less leptin. More ghrelin with less leptin equals weight gain. When you are sleep-deprived, you eat more and your metabolism slows down causing you to increases fat.
When treating insomnia, biofeedback is often used in conjunction with relaxation training or other behavioral approaches. The goal is to help raise clients’ awareness of their physiological processes to gain control over them.
Stress goes hand-in-hand with sleep – Poor sleep leads to higher stress, and high stress leads to poor sleep. Stress is another main factor that can alter your ability to stick to your nutrition protocol and reduce fat.
The real detrimental effect of stress is its ability to lower your adherence and willpower. When you’re stressed, your willpower is lowered, and hunger is typically higher either during or after the stress. There is a direct correlation between stress, sleep, hunger, and cravings. When one of the first two is off, everything is off.
Poor sleep is associated with increased oxidative stress, glucose (blood sugar) intolerance (a precursor to diabetes), and insulin resistance. Extra time spent awake may increase the opportunities to eat, and sleeping less may disrupt circadian rhythms, leading to weight gain.
During times of stress, levels of “the stress hormone” cortisol also increase. It can turn your overeating into a habit. Because increased hormone levels also help cause higher insulin levels, your blood sugar drops, and you crave sugary fatty foods.
Most often, biofeedback helps people control their stress response by realizing when it’s underway and employing relaxation techniques like:
→ Deep breathing
→ Any other activity that feels calming and enjoyable to them (this can mean drinking a glass of juice, watching a favorite T.V. show, etc.)
This helps with fat melt away.
Several hormone-related conditions can cause weight gain, including an underactive thyroid (when your thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormones which regulate metabolism), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) (a hormone-related problem causing small cysts on the ovaries), and menopause (As a consequence of these hormonal changes, you’re more prone to acquire fat around your abdomen.).
The estrogen levels that are too low or too high can cause weight gain. High levels of estrogen in the body can irritate the cells that produce insulin in your body, making you insulin resistant and blood sugar levels rise, leading to weight gain. Low levels of estrogen can also cause a very stubborn type of weight gain.
The leading causes of hormonal imbalances are issues with the thyroid, stress, poor sleep, and eating disorders. Too much stress can also cause an irregular menstrual cycle and infertility in women and a decreased libido in both men and women. Because stress also triggers mood swings and irritability, a hormone imbalance can lead to personal problems, including weight gain.
Biofeedback applications have been widely reviewed in medical journals in terms of evidence and protocols. It is understood that biofeedback can effectively treat various stress-related and stress-induced disorders.
